Tabasil Tablet 250mg contains Terbinafine, an antifungal medication that treats various fungal infections. This allylamine antifungal effectively eliminates dermatophytes, yeasts, and other fungi by disrupting their cell membrane formation. Uses Tabasil Tablet treats fungal infections including onychomycosis (nail fungus), tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea capitis (scalp ringworm). It’s particularly effective for nail fungal infections that haven’t responded to topical treatments. Benefits Provides high cure rates for nail fungus infections Penetrates deeply into nail bed and skin tissues Requires shorter treatment duration than many antifungals Maintains active concentration in nails for months Effective against a wide spectrum of dermatophytes Shows excellent results in treating ringworm infections Produces visible improvement within weeks Prevents recurrence when treatment course completed Single daily dosing improves compliance How It Works Terbinafine works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, preventing the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to accumulation of squalene, weakening the cell structure and causing fungal cell death. Tabasil’s fungicidal action eliminates the infection rather than merely suppressing it. Dosage Infection Type Standard Dosage Treatment Duration Nail infections 250mg once daily 6-12 weeks (fingernails), 12-16 weeks (toenails) Skin infections 250mg once daily 2-4 weeks Take Tabasil with water, with or without food. Complete the full prescribed treatment course even if symptoms improve earlier. Duration of Action Tabasil begins working against fungi within days of starting treatment. For skin infections, improvement may be visible within 1-2 weeks. Nail infections require longer treatment as the medication builds up in the nail bed. Terbinafine remains in nail tissue for months after treatment ends, continuing to prevent fungal regrowth. Side Effects Common side effects include mild stomach upset, headache, rash, or altered taste sensation. These typically resolve during continued treatment. Less common effects include diarrhea, indigestion, or mild skin reactions. Rare but serious side effects requiring medical attention include severe skin reactions, liver problems, or blood disorders. Warning Discontinue Tabasil and consult a doctor immediately if experiencing signs of liver problems (yellowing skin/eyes, dark urine, fatigue), serious skin reactions, or unusual blood conditions. Terbinafine may rarely cause liver damage or severe cutaneous reactions. This medication isn’t suitable for patients with active or chronic liver disease. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Tabasil should be avoided during pregnancy unless clearly necessary and the potential benefit outweighs possible risks. Terbinafine passes into breast milk, so it’s not recommended during breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider if you become pregnant while taking this medication. Interaction May increase levels of certain antidepressants Potential interaction with beta-blockers Could affect caffeine metabolism May alter effectiveness of certain antifungal medications Possible interaction with certain anticoagulants Precaution Liver function tests may be recommended before and during treatment, especially for courses lasting more than 6 weeks. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment, as dosage adjustment may be needed. Discontinue treatment if progressive skin rash develops. Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment to reduce liver stress. Important Information Complete the full prescribed treatment course for Tabasil even after symptoms improve to prevent recurrence. Maintain good hygiene practices during treatment. For nail infections, results may not be fully visible until nails grow out completely (3-6 months for fingernails, 6-12 months for toenails). Contact your doctor if no improvement is seen after several weeks of treatment.
